Dialectical Behavior Therapy

 

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was developed in the late 1980s by Dr. Marsha Linehan to better support individuals with intense emotions and behaviors, especially those with borderline personality disorder (BPD). Traditional therapies often lacked the balance needed, so Dr. Linehan combined cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness to address both acceptance of current struggles and the need for change—this balance is what makes DBT "dialectical." Today, DBT is widely used to help people manage difficult emotions, improve relationships, and build a life worth living, making it effective across issues like trauma, depression, anxiety, and anger management.


DBT equips you with practical tools to manage emotions, reduce conflict, and foster fulfilling relationships. It’s particularly helpful in processing trauma, exploring inner child work, and pursuing personal growth. Central to DBT is radical acceptance—embracing reality without judgment—while staying curious about your experiences. We’ll work together on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and effective communication, empowering you to navigate challenges with resilience and connect authentically with others.
